A recent task management report commissioned by BigHand found that around half of employees in both the United States and United Kingdom will look for a new job if required to work back in the office full time. And yet half of respondents from both side of the Atlantic also said that their firm has mandated a set number of days – with a third admitting to not complying.
In an interactive webinar chat, BigHand’s global director for resource management, Dave Cook, discussed with Legal IT Insider’s editor Caroline Hill this growing expectation gap, and the steps that law firms need to take to get on top of the hybrid working crisis.
Does hybrid working lead to a drop in productivity? The survey results suggest no. However, it’s important to understand some of the nuances when it comes to attitudes to returning to the office, and there is a big difference between different genders.
Cook also discussed the findings around diversity, equity and inclusion, which show that law firms are not sufficiently prioritising DEI when it comes to resourcing matters. This is in stark contrast with client demand, and here Cook looked at examples such as Facebook, HP and Novartis.
With lawyers increasingly likely to vote with their feet, it is key that law firms manage them in a more holistic way, and the days of promising endless salary rises are over. How do firms safeguard profitability with better resourcing?
