US legal IT win: Ward and Smith implements Oddr for billing and collections

North Carolina-based law firm Ward and Smith P.A., has implemented the ‘invoice to cash’ platform of Silicon Valley-founded startup Oddr, we can reveal. Historically a time-consuming manual process, Ward and Smith’s leadership says it has implemented Oddr to help the firm centralise, streamline, and accelerate each step of its billing and collections process.

The 105-attorney firm had various workflow challenges that led to it identifying billing and collections as an area ripe for innovation. We’re told that these included the firm’s increased demand for services and attorney headcount, as well as a technology challenge that precluded billers from having visibility regarding opened emailed invoices.

Oddr, which was founded in 2022 by former Intappers Milan Bobde, Sumit Garg and Saurabh Mehra, is built for law firms and focuses entirely on the lifecycle of invoices. It provides insights and cash flow predictions so its law firm customers know when they can expect to be paid and what their cashflow is for eg the next three months. Clients can also pay into the same platform, opening up further possibilities for analytics and forecasting.

Jennifer Sutton, director of finance for Ward and Smith, said: “The Oddr platform represents a huge advancement in our team’s billing operations productivity. Our team has embraced the solution, as it streamlines and automates previously labour-intensive tasks, substantially increasing productivity and bringing consistency to our client communication. Consequently, we can closely monitor the progress of our invoices, ensuring efficient client delivery and enhanced business function management.”

Director of IT, Charles Collins, added: “The Oddr platform’s unique invoice tracking will allow us to efficiently follow up with clients, resulting in faster payments and better payment cycle management. Remarkably intuitive, the product required minimal training, enabling seamless integration into the firm’s billing operations. The implementation was surprisingly swift and straightforward, which allowed us to establish a fully operational environment in a few weeks.”

This is the latest bit of good news for Oddr, which at the start of March announced it was expanding into the APAC region with law firm consultancy Pickering Pearce as its implementation partner.
