Epiq announced today (8 July) that it has acquired Case Pilots, one of the UK’s leading claims administration companies. Case Pilots effectively handle the back office work of class actions so that legal teams can focus on the core aspects of the case.
Epiq is consistently listed as the world’s leading class actions and claims administrator and the largest in North America, and has been involved in the successful management and distribution of some of the largest settlements in history. In the UK, the New York-headquartered company has been supporting class representatives and law firms since the Consumer Rights Act was passed in 2015, paving the way for class actions.
This acquisition is no doubt a reflection of the growth in class actions in the UK, with cases this year expected to focus on abusive practices of big tech companies; securities class actions; ESG; product liability.
Case Pilots employees have joined Epiq, including co-founder and CEO Clare Ducksbury, who will now serve as senior vice president of Epiq Class Action Solutions Europe. Case Pilots’ co-founder and chief information officer Clinton Smith will join as a senior director in Epiq’s product development team.
Nicole Hamann, president of the class action, remediation, and mass tort business at Epiq, said: “The acquisition of Case Pilots marks a significant milestone and reinforces and expands the ability of Epiq to deliver claims management services to clients across the globe by strengthening our foothold in the UK and Europe. The excellent reputations of Clare, Clinton, and the Case Pilots team in the UK market is well-earned and we look forward to what we will accomplish together for our clients.”
Epiq Class Action and Claims Solutions operates globally including in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Europe.
Terms of this transaction are not disclosed, however Case Pilots is defined by the UK’s Companies House website as a “small company” that is not required to disclose its accounts.
