James Connor has joined data synchronisation and management platform Syncly as its new SVP of global sales & partnerships, joining from Opus 2, where he was VP of sales for the UK, EMEA and APAC, we can reveal. Syncly is also launching its first product since inception – Syncly Govern.
Connor is a well-known member of the legal tech community and has worked at companies including Tikit, Mimecast and HighQ, where he was also VP of sales for EMEA and APAC. He stayed with HighQ for four years following its acquisition by Thomson Reuters in 2019, joining Opus 2 in 2023.
Throughout his career, Connor has worked closely with global law firms, vendors, and consultancy teams, tackling issues from platform fatigue to the integration gap. His focus will now be on scaling Syncly’s global presence and deepening strategic partnerships.
Syncly is headquartered in Sydney, Australia and was co-founded by Stewart Rasmussen, who previously worked at HighQ. It provides real time, two-way synchronisation between legal platforms such as iManage, NetDocuments, HighQ and Microsoft Teams, to ensure that data is in the right place and complies with information governance requirements. It helps law firms to synchronise and move documents between platforms to ensure that the system of record is complete, and it also provides an audit trail of where documents have been moved from and to.
“It is an exciting time to be joining Syncly,” Connor said. “Integrations are often the key to unlocking the power of a firm’s technology stack, and Syncly has a very clear vision for how it plans to become the leader in this space.”
Connor joins a number of the former HighQ team at Syncly, which continues to grow in response to market demand.
“We have seen a huge increase in demand from both law firms and legal departments, as well as vendors and James join the team will allow us to meet this demand across the global markets in which we operate,” said Rasmussen.
He added: “We have a number of exciting new products and features that we plan to release over the remainder of the year and can announce that we are launching our first new product since inception, Syncly Govern — designed to help HighQ administrators proactively manage sites and users through the use of intelligent rules.”
As with any hype cycle, the investment hangover all too often involves consolidation and Rasmussen said: “Firms are increasingly turning towards integrations to achieve this, and I am seeing an increasing trend towards two types of integration solutions – generalists such as Workato and Power Automate, and specialists such as InTapp Integration Builder and Syncly.”
He added: “Integrations are notoriously difficult in the legal tech space. All too often we are faced with immature, or non-existent APIs, and don’t even get me started on public vs private APIs. However, it is encouraging to see the industry slowly open up, with many new entrants adopting an ‘API first’ approach to how they build their platforms, and even some of the old guard start to become more open to collaboration.”
