UK and Ireland law firm Browne Jacobson today (7 October) announced the purchase of an enterprise-wide licence for Legora, following a pilot that chief operating officer Abby Ewen tells us encompassed over 400 people and has created a “wellbeing lift” at the firm.
Legora is being rolled out to all staff at Browne Jacobson, not just its lawyers.
The pilot began in earnest at the beginning of summer and Ewen said: “We had 410 people on the pilot. It was the fastest-growing group I’ve ever seen get involved in a pilot and the level of engagement in the Teams chat was extraordinary.”
She added: “I get the sense that the lawyers think it will help them to deal with a lot of distracting tasks so that they can focus on being a lawyer.”
What also jumped out about the project was the close collaboration between Browne Jacobson’s IT and knowledge management teams and its lawyers. Ewen said: “We have been working as an awesome team. Sometimes teams fight because they have different agendas but with us it has been one big friendly exercise.”
The pilot explored a wide range of use cases across the firm’s service lines and sectors.
Ewen observed that the introduction of Legora has created a wellbeing lift, commenting: “Someone told me the other day that a client asked them to do something by the end of the day and they were able to do it and also put their child to bed.”
“This represents a significant investment in our people and our future,” said Richard Medd, managing partner at Browne Jacobson in a statement. “We’re not just adopting technology for technology’s sake – we’re strategically positioning ourselves as a law firm fit for the future. Our extensive evaluation process confirmed that Legora’s capabilities and approach align extremely well with how we serve our clients and operate our business. Our ambitious approach to embracing innovation ensures we remain at the forefront of supporting our clients in addressing some of society’s biggest issues.
