UK win: Thorntons selects CTS to provide managed hybrid cloud platform

Full service Scottish law firm Thorntons has selected CTS to provide a managed hybrid cloud platform, in a move that will see Thorntons move away from their current split of on-premises equipment and co-located data center.

Thorntons will leverage both CTS’ private cloud and Microsoft Azure public cloud, which it says will enable it to deliver on the agile approach set out in the IT roadmap and embrace new technologies, while controlling and protecting sensitive data.

Thorntons has 13 offices across Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Angus, Fife, and Perth and recently merged with Edinburgh-based law firm Stuart & Stuart WS. The expanded business now totals 564 people, of which 67 are partners.

In August the Dundee-headquartered firm announced that it is to move off Thomson Reuters Elite Enterprise to 3E, and they continue to use LexisNexis Visualfiles, both of which they say are part of their digital transformation strategy, alongside the new partnership with CTS.

Sarah Blair, IT director at Thorntons, said: “From the very beginning, CTS took the time to truly understand our firm’s future business objectives, and carefully curated a solution that would support us to achieve our goals. As the firm continues to expand and develop, it was vital to us to have a platform in place that could grow and adapt with us – the flexibility of CTS’ hybrid cloud solution stood out and was a key driver behind our partnership decision.

“CTS’ legal sector specialism provides us with a service that is uniquely customised to align with how our firm operates, backed by legal IT experts providing advice and guidance to enable Thorntons to drive our digital transformation forward, as we look to adopt new technologies and enhance the way we deliver service to our clients.”
