A new legal tech platform that says it will transform how US startups and small businesses access legal support came out of its beta this week. Paralex, developed by attorney of over 29 years, Stephen Candelmo, will offer founders and entrepreneurs attorney-verified custom legal documents for what Candelmo says will be a fraction of the cost and time of traditional models. Through a self-guided onboarding process, users first discuss their needs with an AI agent. The platform then blends AI with real-time support from experienced lawyers to draft custom, high-quality legal documents with a transparent, fixed-fee price structure.
The combination of tech + attorney is not new, and we asked Candelmo if there is a precedent bank that you tailor and can consult an attorney – a bit like Rocket Lawyer. “Yes—but with a critical difference,” he said. “Unlike Rocket Lawyer’s DIY model, every contract on Paralex is built from a vetted precedent bank and customized by our system, then reviewed and finalized by a real attorney on the platform. There’s no self-service option. Clients always get an attorney-reviewed work product.”
In terms of how AI fits in and works within the platform, Candelmo said: “Our AI handles up to 80% of the upfront work—including client intake, issue spotting, and first-draft generation based on our precedent database. It also helps match the project with the right attorney and monitors workflows across the platform. A licensed attorney then reviews, customizes, and collaborates with the client to finalize the document—ensuring both speed and legal accuracy.”
Paralex uses a fixed-fee pricing, and Candelmo says: “Fees typically range from $150 to $900 per project, depending on the document type and complexity. There are no hourly rates or hidden charges.”
Paralex currently serves only U.S.-based businesses or companies operating in the United States. “We plan to expand internationally based on demand and legal infrastructure in key markets,” Candelmo told us.
The initial customers include pre-seed to seed-stage startups and traditional small businesses across a wide variety of sectors and its range of legal document drafting services include NDAs, privacy policies, terms of service, employment agreements, founder and equity agreements, service contracts, and an array of startup resources.
The platform is also introducing the option for small firms and attorneys to license Paralex’s technology platform to service their own clients, allowing industry experts to become Paralex-partnered lawyers and law firms.
