Leading South African law firm and Linklaters alliance partner Webber Wentzel has today (26 August) announced a multi-faceted partnership with legal AI platform Legora. The Legora platform has been rolled out across the firm, which Webber Wentzel says marks just the start of a deeper, long-term collaboration.
As part of the partnership, Legora will serve as the first official anchor technology in Webber Wentzel’s Innovation Lab, in which the pair will co-develop solutions purpose-built for the South African and broader African legal markets.
We’re told that the partnership follows a year-long evaluation of Legora, which included stringent assessment against other AI platforms and engagement and feedback from Webber Wentzel’s legal and business teams.
The Innovation Lab sits at the heart of Webber Wentzel Fusion, the firm’s alternative legal services division. Fusion works closely with clients to identify the right strategies and tools and this will include direct access Legora’s platform, to test and explore the software.
Aalia Manie, head of Fusion, said: “We have been deeply impressed with Legora throughout the extensive evaluation process. What began as a pilot has become a hands-on partnership focused on shaping AI tools that reflect the realities of legal practice in Africa – where complexity, culture, and regulatory nuance demand more than off-the-shelf solutions.
“Our lawyers and business teams quickly saw the value – not just in the product, but in the way Legora supports integration and adoption. That level of collaboration has allowed us to move faster and with more confidence. We’re now building together with purpose: not chasing innovation for its own sake but developing tools that respond to the realities our clients face. We are excited about what’s coming and what we can do together.”
