End of an era as BLP’s Janet Day announces forthcoming retirement

Janet_DayBerwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has announced the appointment of Mike Nolan to the position of IT Director, with effect from 1st January 2015. Mike will replace Janet Day who is retiring from the firm at the end of this year after 18 years. Mike, who has a Masters in IT Management, joined BLP in 1998 and has worked closely with Janet for the last decade. In his new role he will focus on how technology will be used to drive innovation forwards at BLP and how the firm can continue to lead the field when it comes to digitisation, automation and other advances that are transforming many other industries.
Mike Nolan commented: “Following in Janet’s footsteps will of course be a challenge but one that I am looking forward to. Today, technology continues to play a huge part in everyone’s lives and professional and personal worlds are now blended together more than ever before. The challenge we face is to ensure that we are able to connect groups of people, whether that is our clients or our own people, and keep everyone engaged together. At the same time we must push technological boundaries but do this in the most secure way to ensure maximum confidentiality when it comes to client information. IT developments will only increase over the coming years and it is an exciting time to be taking on this new role. Janet has been a great mentor to me over the years and I’ve learnt so much from her. I hope to put into practice everything that we’ve discussed together.“
Neville Eisenberg, Managing Partner, BLP said: “The challenge for law firms is to deploy technology efficiently, in particular as a tool for engaging with clients. We will stay at the forefront of existing and emerging technologies to ensure that we extend our innovative systems to enable greater self-service and improved transparency. Mike has been with us for many years and is the ideal person to drive this forward. He’s worked closely with Janet so this will be an exceptionally smooth transition. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Janet for her 18 years of dedicated and exceptional service. Janet has achieved the highest respect and recognition in the IT sector and has contributed in many ways to our success. We wish her every happiness in her retirement.”
