Corporate boutique law firm Buckworths this month launches in Manchester to target high growth technology businesses, in particular the burgeoning FinTech sector.
Buckworths launched in London in 2011, led by former Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton associate Michael Buckworth, and focuses on digital start-ups. As well as commercial law, the firm advises fast growth firms on fundraising through angel investors and venture capital funds.
Its clients include Mercury FX, a foreign exchange provider engaged in blockchain research for use in the FinTech sector; Glownet, a high growth startup providing cashless payment systems for concerts and festivals; and bitcoin trading platform Coinfloor.
The growing volume of London-based startups and professional advisory firms northshoring offices and services to Manchester was a driver for the new Manchester office and Buckworth said: “Manchester will become an increasingly important European destination for innovative financial technology businesses. There’s no doubt that the existing infrastructure is ripe for an explosion in the number of disruptive digital companies.”
