Legal tech veteran Peter Gill has joined Aderant as its senior sales director for EMEA, responsible for growing the Atlanta-headquartered business across the UK and Europe, we can reveal.
Gill has held numerous legal tech roles since he was sales director for LexisNexis from 1993-2003, including a four-year stint at Aderant’s main rival Thomson Reuters, where between 2014 to 2018 he was responsible for the retention and growth of revenues from TR’s ERP solutions.
Since Thomson Reuters he worked briefly for Converge Technology Specialists, and then on contract at customer engagement provider Engage Solutions Group and at UK document signing and onboarding company VirtualSignature.
Gill replaces Eric-Jan van Alten, who on 1 September took on the role of CEO at online legal practice management software provider Legalsense.
Speaking to Legal IT Insider, Gill said: “My remit is to develop sales through new clients; through our existing customer base and product suites which now includes our hosted Sierra product as well as on premises products; and through our acquired businesses such as BillBlast and iTimeKeep. I’m tasked with growing the EMEA customer base, revenue and footprint.”
Gill’s move to Aderant will raise eyebrows among his former TR colleagues but he said: “This job is the nature of what I loved to do at Thomson Reuters – large law strategy and core PMS. It’s a good business to be a part of and they have a good opportunity across EMEA.”
Gill is based in the UK and will be spending time in Aderant’s London office. He says that many of the new enquiries he has already dealt with are for Sierra, commenting: “It started life with smaller firms and is growing to larger firms.” Asked whether it matters that Sierra isn’t a SaaS product, Gill said: “Any product at the core of your business is not going to be pure plug and play but Sierra has good client engagement and it’s where the direction of travel is.”
